Iris is a Ph.D. in Advanced Materials and Processing, currently working as a research fellow at the University of Birmingham, studying Intermetallic Dispersion Strengthened ‘IDS-Steels’ for Generation IV Nuclear.
Her Ph.D., finished in 2022, was carried out in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and was mainly focused on the detailed investigation of strengthening mechanisms and deformation behaviour of metal matrix nanocomposites reinforced with carbon nanotubes, crucial for the understanding of several techniques and scientific process.
Always curious and passionate about science, in 2023, she embraced the new promising challenge of developing a new generation of IDS-Steels capable of withstanding the requirements of Generation IV reactors, which can open many doors in the nuclear energy field.
