Atlas of the European Novel, 1800-1900
Franco Moretti (London: Verso 1999)

By now, Moretti’s book needs no introduction: his idea to map places and locations in literary texts to see what hidden meanings we might uncover from the places that are mentioned and omitted took the literary world by storm. The book was a major contributor to the growth and development of GIS mapping techniques in the digital humanities, although Moretti himself does not mention this in his book.
