Ilaria De Simone’s Profile

In 1994, I was born in Belgium. I completed both my bachelor of biomedical sciences and subsequently my master in basic and translational research at the KULeuven (Belgium). During my internship at the Rega Institute (Leuven, Belgium), I worked on the production, purification and biological characterization of a recombinant acute phase protein. Here, I enjoyed working on my own project and realized that I wanted to do a PhD.

Recently, I was given the opportunity to become an early stage researcher in the TAPAS program. My research will focus on the unravelling of the interaction between coagulation and platelets, and how the coagulation pathway generates ligands for platelet receptors. During my PhD, I will mainly be working at Maastricht University, under the supervision of Dr. P van der Meijden and Prof. Dr. H. ten Cate.ย  In my second year, I will go to the Semmelweis university (Budapest, Hungary) for a short visit, where I will be under the supervision ofย  Prof. J. Harsfalvi. Afterwards, I will be doing a secondment at the University of Reading (UK), under the supervision of Prof. J. Gibbins and Dr. C. Jones.
