From a 1250-m high, small town, I went down to the largest city in Spain where I obtained a Biochemistry degree at Autónoma University in Madrid. During my degree, I had the opportunity to focus on signalling pathways doing my final project in the National Centre of Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid. After that, I moved to the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) to study a one year Taught Master in Molecular Biotechnology. Being in Birmingham I realised how much I like doing research and decided that I wanted to continue my studies doing a PhD.
My PhD project will be focused on developing and applying a new method for ultra-high throughput screening in fluorescently labelled platelets. This method will be used to test libraries of small molecule compounds to obtain candidate compounds to inhibit GPVI-induced phosphorylation and Ca2+ signals. The compounds provide a new tool for all the TAPAS ESRs and researchers in the field.
My research will be done at Maastricht University (The Netherlands) under the supervision of Prof Johan Heemskerk and Dr Marijke Kuijpers and at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) under the supervision of Dr Ángel García. I will also do a short visit at Pivot Park Screening Centre in Oss (The Netherlands).
