About IMPACT

IMPACT (Integrated Midlands Partnership for Biomedical Training) is a Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) funded by the MRC between three academic partners – the Universities of Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham. Research projects within the DTP are focused around the theme of Complex Disease, which allows doctoral students to benefit from a diverse range of projects and skills within the cohort, stimulating students to think ‘outside the box’ and perform innovative, world-leading research.

14 studentships a year are awarded to the highest quality applicants to the DTP. Those awarded the studentships will then enter a programme of training in both scientific and transferrable skills, alongside pursuing their chosen project within any of the partner universities. Importantly, the DTP provides the opportunity for students to benefit from the expertise of our research partner, the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH). Additionally, we hope that the students take advantage of opportunities to undertake placements during their studies – this could be in industry, scientific journals or even national government.

The integrated partnership of Birmingham, Nottingham and Leicester alongside RCaH means that doctoral students within the programme benefit from a unique training experience while performing world-leading biomedical research, allowing them to pursue a career of their choice upon completion – whether this is within academia, or using their training to pursue other exciting opportunities.
