The Platelet Proteomics Group, led by Prof. \u00c1ngel Garc\u00eda, belongs to the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CIMUS), Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, and the Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Sanitaria de Santiago (IDIS) [Santiago Health Research Institute]. In our group, we are currently using a combination of Proteomics technology and classical biochemistry to unravel the signal transduction events following the activation of the most relevant platelet receptors.<\/p>\n

We are focusing our studies on healthy and diseased platelets in order to identify novel biomarkers and drug targets that may help to treat \/ diagnose those diseases where unwanted platelet activation plays a role, such as acute coronary syndromes. In addition, we are currently searching for small molecule inhibitors of some of the most interesting targets identified by proteomics.<\/p>\n

Key research facilities<\/strong><\/p>\n

In our facilities we are capable to carry out platelet proteomic and pharmacological studies.<\/p>\n

Our facilities include and ISO7 clean room with 1D and 2D gel electrophoresis equipment. We also have state-of-the art facilities for early drug discovery. We have access to a micro liquid chromatography system (Eksigent Technologies nanoLC 400, (SCIEX) coupled to high speed Triple TOF 6600 mass spectrometer (SCIEX)<\/p>\n

Furthermore, we are well equipped to perform functional analysis through different techniques, including flow cytometry, platelet aggregometry, Maastricht whole blood flow adhesion based on widefield fluorescent microscopy system. We are also able to express and purify targeted proteins and develop binding studies based on protein-protein interaction.<\/p>\n
