Poet and editor Luciano Caruso (1944-2002) was born in Naples and was influenced by the youth culture of Naples in the 1960s as well as by his encounters with French Lettrist poets and Situationist writers. He believed greater importance should be accorded to the material aspects of poetry than was previously the case in Italian writing. He founded the \u2018Gruppo Continuum\u2019 with poet Stelio Maria Martini in 1967. Among their collaborations are the review\u00a0Continuum<\/em>\u00a0(1968-70) and its successor\u00a0Continuazione<\/em>. Emanuela Patti argues in a forthcoming article that the editors wanted to \u2018explode\u2019 the review format: these were collective works that rethought the idea of individual authorship. The review was a \u2018container of behaviours\u2019, and included evidence of events such as meetings or gatherings, thus marking a shift to understanding poetic creativity as action and linking poetic, artistic endeavours with social and political change. Caruso\u2019s publications and papers are held at the Luciano Caruso archive in Florence.<\/p>\n
