The Trade and Sustainable Development Agenda under Transatlantic EU Free Trade Agreements: An Irresolute Enforcement of Labour and Environmental Standards? – Aakriti Bhardwaj
Aakriti presented her paper before an expert panel comprising Professor Elaine Fahey (City Law School, City University London) and Dr. Gracia Marin Duran (Faculty of Laws, UCL). The paper presented issues concerning trade-related labour and environmental standards in the context of EU transatlantic free trade agreements. It provided an overview of the trade and sustainable development provisions and sought to analyse the enforcement mechanisms proposed by these provisions. The paper concluded that for a more resolute enforcement of labour and environmental standards, the inter-governmental dispute resolution mechanism (that essentially encourages the participation and contribution of the civil society) needs to be strengthened.
