The party is working on the expansion of their ideas with a high participation of women in its leadership. One day before the EU-Moroccan summit, the PRUNE – Partido Renacimiento y Unión de España (Spain’s Renaissance and Union Party) is officially presented in Granada. It’s founder, a Spaniard of Moroccan origin (former delegate of the Spanish Islamic Commission – CIE – and Vice-president of the FEERI – Spanish Federation of Islamic Religious Entities) relates the parties’ principles – which include the promotion of political participation, of justice, equality, solidarity and respect for the Spanish Constitution and legality – and regrets the negative public reaction claiming a potential islamicist and pro-Moroccan tendency of the Party. PRUNE shall run for the municipal elections in the year 2011 and for the general elections in 2012. So far the PRUNE is present in Granada, Málaga, Madrid, Barcelona, Asturias, Valencia and Murcia.
The Party for the Renaissance and Union of Spain (PRUNE) is the first Islam-orientated political party in Spain. The Party was founded in Granada and party organizers are trying to present candidacies in three cities (Granada, Barcelona and Oviedo) for the next local elections in 2011. The article is an interview with Mustafá Bakkach El Aamrani, the president of PRUNE. In the interview, he explains the main points of their political program. He defines PRUNE as a party with an “Islamic orientation” much like the way “the Popular Party (PP) has a Christian orientation”. “This is different from an Islamic party”, Mustafá Bakkach adds. The PRUNE was legalized in July 2009. The party identifies itself as a conservative party which aspires to represent all the minorities of Spain.
