UK Independence Party Member Suspended for Anti-Muslim Comments

7 May 2013

Tony Nixon, a UK Independence Party (UKip) member from Guisborough who canvassed nearly 800 homes for the party in the most recent election, has been suspended by the UKip for allegedly posting anti-Muslim material on his Facebook page. Mr. Nixon’s page contained a number of anti-Muslim jokes advocating the destruction of Mosques and calling Islam “The Crime Against Humanity.” Mr. Nixon also “liked” right wing groups such as the English Defence League (EDL), saying that the EDL and the UKip are on the same side “in the fight against traitors to Britain.”

The UKip did surprisingly well in the recent County Council elections held earlier this month, winning 153 council seats and finishing ahead of the Conservative party candidates in 500 council seats across the country. The party calls for an overhaul of the immigration system in the United Kingdom, advocating a five year freeze on permanent settlement and withdrawal from the European Convention of Human Rights and the European Convention on Refugees. In response to the allegations against Mr. Nixon, the party said, “We do not condone racist or any other inappropriate comments and regard them as totally abhorrent and if anyone else is discovered acting in such an appalling way they will be thrown out of the party.”

North Yorkshire police are aware of Mr. Nixon’s alleged comments and are currently investigating the matter.

English Defence League backs Ukip in local elections

The UK Independence Party (Ukip) faced embarrassment last night after it received the unwanted endorsement of the far-Right English Defence League for next month’s local council elections. Currently third in UK polls and is fielding up to 2,000 candidates in the contests, rapidly distanced itself from the “abhorrent and stupid” anti-Islamic organisation. Under Mr Farage’s leadership, Ukip has striven hard to lose its reputation for extremism following accusations that it is the “BNP in suits”. David Cameron once described it as a “bunch of fruitcakes and loonies and closet racists, mostly”. The article also reports that a senior Labour source said: “Ukip should be ashamed that their rhetoric and policies have such appeal to those on the far-Right who want to stir up hatred.”

Lord Pearson plays the Islam card to win leadership of UK Independence Party

A millionaire peer was elected leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) yesterday after putting “the growing threat of Islamism” and curbing immigration at the heart of his campaign.

Lord Pearson of Rannoch, who defected from the Conservatives two years ago, comfortably beat four rivals to assume command of the anti-European Union party.

One of two UKIP peers, he has protested that the “political class” is complacent about Islamism and claimed that some of “our people” were “strangers in our own land”.

The 67-year-old former insurance broker invited the right-wing Dutch politician Geert Wilders in February to screen a controversial film about radical Islam. He has called for a zero net increase in immigration, arguing that the issue was the main concern for many voters, and strongly supports the party’s main idea that the UK leave the European Union.
